Dans le cadre de la semaine de l’Unité des chrétiens et d’un hommage à saint John-Henry Newman, une cérémonie singulière a eu lieu à la cathédrale catholique de Westminster. Outre « l’évêque » anglicane de Londres, Sarah Mullally, il y avait le cardinal Radcliffe, dominicain, favorable au changement de l’enseignement de l’Église sur la sexualité et même à l’accès des femmes au sacerdoce. L’archevêque anglican émérite de Canterbury, Rowan William, était présent, tout comme l’archevêque d’York, Stephen Cottrell. Notons que ce dernier a rappelé la figure du cardinal Newman qui est le deuxième Docteur de l’Église:
A joy today to attend an ecumenical service at Westminster Cathedral marking St John Henry Newman’s proclamation as a Doctor of the Church. Newman became the 38th such Doctor, and only the second English person, after the Venerable Bede, to receive the distinction.
