La Congrégation pour la doctrine de la foi a désigné, le 23 septembre, Mgr Donald Wuerl, archevêque de Washington, D.C., et président de la commission doctrinale de la conférence des évêques américains, responsable de l’application aux États-Unis de la constitution apostolique Anglicanorum Cœtibus de Benoît XVI de novembre 2009, visant à faciliter la pleine communion des anglicans (éspiscopaliens) américains par l’érection d’ordinariats personnels. En cette qualité de responsable, Mgr Wuerl devient ainsi le délégué du Saint Office pour le comité ad hoc de la conférence épiscopale chargée de l’application de la constitution apostolique du Souverain Pontife, et en prend la présidence. Les autres membres de la commission ad hoc sont l’évêque Kevin Vann (Fort Worth, Texas) et l’évêque Robert McMannus (Worcester, Massachussetts). Ce comité ad hoc sera assisté par le P. Scott Hurd, “ordonné” prêtre épiscopalien (anglican) en 1993 mais qui a rejoint l’Église catholique trois ans plus tard et a été ordonné prêtre pour l’archidiocèse de Washington en 2000. Le comité ad hoc a deux fonctions : faciliter l’application d’Anglicanorum Cœtibus aux États-Unis, et évaluer le niveau d’intérêt pour la constitution d’un ordinariat aux États-Unis. Le communiqué utilise le singulier, mais plusieurs ordinariats pourraient être créés aux États-Unis. Le comité ad hoc invite tous les épiscopaliens américains intéressés par Anglicanorum Cœtibus à se mettre en rapport avec l’archevêque Wuerl. Oremus !
